DRG and executive editor receive Flamie awards

BERNE, Ind. -- DRG Executive Crochet Editor Carol Alexander has been named the recipient of the Crochet Liberation Front's 2011 Flamie Lifetime Achievement Award.

The Flamie award is a Web-only Oscars-like honor, with recipients chosen through open voting on a number of "Best Of" categories for crochet. It is fast becoming a coveted award in the crochet world.

Alexander is editor of both Crochet! and Crochet World magazines, published by DRG, a leader in the craft and nostalgia markets. She is an active member of the Crochet Guild of America, where she has served on the board of directors for several years.

As a teacher and encourager of the art of crochet, she has mentored several of today's popular crochet designers, and regularly uses projects in her magazines that are submitted by new designers.

"We are pleased that Carol is a member of our editorial staff, and proud of her accomplishments," Editorial Director Jeanne Stauffer said. "She knows crochet inside and out and enjoys it at every level, from the trendiest designer sweater to the versatile granny square."

Alexander joined DRG as an editor in 2002, and previous to that, worked 15 years as a professional crochet designer.

VP Product Michele Fortune said, "She is very deserving of this award, because she has served the crochet industry for many years, first as a designer, and then as an editor." DRG also received a 2011 Flamie award in the category of Best Children's Design, awarded for a pattern called Tulip Baby Set, which was featured on the cover of the April 2010 issue of Crochet World magazine.

Crochet World is a nationally-distributed publication, launched in 1978 as one of the first magazines geared specifically toward crochet.

DRG is in its third generation of Muselman family ownership and is well known for its iconic brands, which include Annie's Attic, House of White Birches, Clotilde, American School of Needlework and Good Old Days.

The company publishes magazines and books, and offers kits, supplies and deliverable products on more than 40 DRG websites, as well as on newsstands and in craft stores nationwide.
