BERNE, Ind. -- DRG, nationally-known publisher of craft and nostalgia magazines and books, has released a new knitting pattern book, Warm Hands Warm the Heart. The book retails for $9.95.

Warm Hands Warm the Heart is a unique "how to" book, with instructions for knitters creating their first mitten project, and with designs for the advanced knitter as well. It includes sizing options for mittens to fit children through adults, with tutorials and full-color, step-by-step photographs.

The book includes instructions for four different mitten knitting methods, including working with double-point needles, working with two circular needles, using the magic-loop method on one circular needle, and working back and forth using straight needles.

In all, there are eight mitten and fingerless mitt patterns in designs written at the beginner through experienced skill levels -- each with row-by-row instructions. The book also offers projects that introduce alternate ways to work in-the-round projects, with patterns that include advanced techniques, color work, drop stitch elements and embroidered details.

Kara Gott Warner is the book's editor. In 1997, she began designing knitted and crocheted garments and accessories, selling on the craft and artisan show circuit. She soon branched off to knitting patterns and kits, and in 2002, established igottknits, an independent knitting pattern collection sold through yarn shops and several online venues.

In 2008, Warner began working as a freelance knit editor for DRG, focusing on books. In 2010, she joined DRG as the executive editor for the company's knitting publications, including Creative Knitting magazine. Her designs have also been featured in other leading knitting magazines.

Warm Hands Warm the Heart is published under the House of White Birches brand. Additional DRG brands include Annie's Attic, The Needlecraft Shop, Clotilde and American School of Needlework.

The book is available from the Annie's Attic catalog, accessible on the Web at AnniesAttic.com.
