BERNE, Ind. -- DRG, a leader in the craft and nostalgia markets, has released a new serger sewing instructional and pattern book called Serger Sewing Basics. It is published under the company's House of White Birches brand and sells for $14.95.

The book is divided into six chapters, with five chapters devoted to serger basics, including mastering the controls, threading, tension and stitch basics. Additional chapters cover supplies, stitch techniques, creative options and maintenance and troubleshooting.

Chapter six includes 13 projects, with step-by-step instructions, color photos and additional diagrams for completing each project.

With a serger, fabric edges are finished as the seam is sewn, and every serger has a cutting system that trims excess fabric and thread, leaving a finished seam as it sews. The average serger also stitches twice as fast as a home sewing machine.

Carol Zentgraf, the book's designer, specializes in sewing, fabrics and decorating. She has a degree in interior design and commercial art and has worked in the craft and sewing industry for more than 30 years.

Serger Sewing Basics features projects in skill levels from beginner through advanced, with patterns for creating a sampler pillow, a table runner, a fleece throw and a number of other accessory items. The book is available from the Clotilde catalog, accessible online at Clotilde.com.

DRG's publishing division encompasses additional leading brands that include Annie's Attic, American School of Needlework, Clotilde and Good Old Days.

DRG books, magazines and related products are available from the company website at DRGnetwork.com.
