BERNE, Ind. -- DRG, nationally-known publisher of magazines and books, announces the release of a new 160-page collection of first-person nostalgic stories about the advent of radio and television. The book is published under DRG's popular House of White Birches brand as part of the Good Old Days line of publications.

Riding the Airwaves is edited by Ken and Janice Tate. The Tates have co-edited Good Old Days magazines and their accompanying books for more than 15 years and are among the most popular nostalgic authors in North America.

Included in the book are color photos of memorable movie characters, such as Clark Gable, Cary Grant, Shirley Temple, Bob Hope and Bette Davis, as well as television personalities that include Buffalo Bob, Red Skelton, Johnny Carson. Lucille Ball and Ed Sullivan.

Accounts also recall The Adventures of Superman, Captain Midnight and The Lone Ranger, and the book opens with a chapter dedicated to old-time radio shows in a collection called "Sitting 'Round the Philco."

Riding the Airwaves retails for $24.95.

Good Old Days publications originated in the 1960s as a write-in column for sharing nostalgia. The column soon grew in popularity and became an independent publication, and in the years since then has continued to attract new readers and new contributors.

"In 1993 when we celebrated our 30th year of publication, we said our nostalgia magazine was one that could actually get nostalgic about itself," said Ken Tate, "and now here we are, closing in on half a century of telling the stories of ordinary folks who have lived extraordinary lives. I believe our readers recognize that our magazines and books are a natural extension of the great American tradition of oral history."
